Buy a piece of straw for a thatch roof on the Viking street for £2

Early Viking houses were single-storey made from wattle and daub, with advances in building techniques allowing the build of two storey wooden structures later on. However both styles of house had thatch roofs. Help rebuild JORVIK stick by stick and straw by straw by sponsoring a piece of straw thatch on the roof of a Viking house.

Sponsor a ‘Smell of the day’ for £100

One of the most powerful memories visitors have of JORVIK Viking Centre from over the past 32 years is the smell! However, there are actually six different smells within JORVIK, some nice, some not so nice, depending on which area of the ride visitors are currently passing. (e.g. the blacksmith’s house pumps out the smell of a coal fire to evoke the smell of iron being forged by a hammer and other metal working tools).

The Sif smell of the day sponsorship package is an opportunity to sponsor the smell on a day of your choosing (subject to availability) each year. A screen within the new admissions area will display the sponsor’s name for all visitors to see.

To purchase the Sif smell of the day click the link below which will take you through to the booking site. Your Sif package purchase will generate an e- certificate which you can print at home to give as a gift or keep as a memento of your contribution to JORVIK. Sponsor an animal on the Viking street for £5,000 – £15,000

1,000 years ago the hustle and bustle of a busy metropolis like Jorvik would have attracted a wide range of wildlife. The Vikings kept much the same animals as we breed nowadays: cattle, sheep and pigs, plus a few horses and goats. Hens were kept around the house to supply meat and eggs and there were rats and mice living in the houses. Large amounts of rubbish in the street would have attracted large, scavenger birds like eagles, ravens and red kites. To help incorporate this aspect of Viking life, we are offering the opportunity to sponsor an animal, either taxidermied or animatronic, within JORVIK. Opportunities include:
