Following the severe flooding in York, JORVIK Viking Centre will be closed until further notice. Read below on how this affects your planned education visit.

If you had a booking for a school visit to the JORVIK Viking Centre, or were thinking of making one, we are committed to helping you make the most of York’s fascinating Viking archaeology and we are still offering a range of fun and educational Viking sessions from The JORVIK Group.

Booked Visits

All schools with visits booked to the JORVIK Viking Centre in January will be contacted by our Reservations team this week about re-configuring your booking to take advantage of our replacement Viking offers, or changing your booking to an outreach session or Virtual Viking session.

All bookings taking place after January will be contacted in due course.

If you hold a booking, and would like to enquire about alternatives to your visit to the JORVIK Viking Centre, our Reservations Team are on hand to assist. Please email: or call 01904 615505. (Please be advised that there may be a delay to responding due to the amount of enquiries being handled at this time.)

Alternative JORVIK Experiences

The JORVIK Group plans to host a new Viking experience at a site in the city for schools to visit from September, and you can also take advantage of our hands-on archaeology tours, Viking archaeology handling and a range of exciting Viking-themed workshops at our sister attraction, DIG.

Our Outreach and Virtual Outreach programme is still available, with the opportunity to have one of our Viking re-enactors visit your classroom, or to have your questions to a Viking answered via Skype, wherever you are in the world.

Also, our Viking Loan Box contains everything you need for a fun and interactive lesson, with replicas and activities that let the class get hands-on with the Viking Age.
